The rocking chair is one of the most beloved pieces of furniture ever invented. It is also one of the most popular. Who doesn't have a memory of some kind that involves their Grandparents rocker chair? I know as a child I would run to the rocker and rock as fast as I could. Now as an adult I wander over to the rocker and rock nice and peaceful like.
If you are a woodworker than I know that if you haven't already made one that you do eventually want to. Sometimes it takes a while to acquire all the skills that you need to make one. There are simple rocking chair plans and then there are really difficult ones. But one thing is clear, making your own chair will be one of your proudest woodworking projects. And by making your own you can save a ton of money.

If you are an experienced woodworker than you can make just about any of these chairs. But some of them are easier to make than others and it may be a good idea to start with an easier one and work you way up. Some of these are extremely difficult and take a lot of knowledge of the wood that you will be using. I know some of you will make one of all of these over the course of your lifetime so I will state here that the quality of the plan is essential to your success. You will need a thorough plan for the more adventuress chairs. So get the best plans that you can find.
To be of any worth to you your plan should tell you what type of wood to use. How much of it will you need and should you get extra due to some extremely difficult technique? The time it will take to complete the project is always nice to know. Ideally you would like blueprints and also pictures of the project at different steps so you can compare what you have to what you should have. Finally, it's always nice if you can get video so you can see completely around from different angles.
The versatility of the rocking chair is one of the things that gives it so much appeal. You have chairs for outside use and some for inside use. An example of an outside chair is the Brentwood Rocker, very popular. As is the Adirondack Rocker. Adirondack chairs that aren't rockers are very popular.
There more varieties for the indoor chairs then the outdoor version. It's hard to say which is the most popular but the one with the highest sentimental value would have to be the Maternal Rocker. If you build this you will have something that you can pass down through your family for generations. You need to get the highest quality plans and use the highest quality wood to ensure that it will last and last.
Of all the rocking chairs my personal favorite is the one that ends up on the porch. I have so many great memories of sitting out on a summer day over Grandma's house and eating watermelon and just rocking away the day. Now I still sit out on the porch, but my rocking is nice and slow and peaceful. How times change a person.
So when it comes to picking the best rocking chair plans for you I want to make clear that you have to have the highest quality available. Not just of the wood and tools, but of the plans themselves. You should have blueprints, instructions, Bill of Materials, pictures, and video if possible. This will save you a lot of trouble and expense in the long run.
